Batman and Robin #25
This week the final part of the three story arc with the Red Hood concluded in BATMAN AND ROBIN #25. So far it has been a very good run and I have really enjoyed Winick’s run, but an entire arc can be made or destroyed if the ending isn’t just right. SO I found out which one it was today.
We first get a little moment with Scarlet who has been taken hostage to lure in Jason Todd. We then quickly jump to the Batmobile where a less than thrilled Batman and Robin are sitting with the Red Hood (Jason) on route to get Scarlet back. After some poking and prodding Jason decides it is time to make his exit. He escapes the vehicle and heads to the meeting on his own. After what seems to be the end for Jason, Batman and Robin show up to help save the day. Just before Robin can escape with Scarlet, Jason grabs her and runs off knowing full well where Batman and Robin are going to send him if they catch him. Even though they chase him he escapes in a very “Red Hood” manner.
This has been a really fun arc. I had enjoyed Winick’s run with the Red Hood in the Mini-Series, THE LOST DAYS and was hoping some of that would rub off on this. Even though it had pockets of lull this was a great story arc and a goof one to read for any Batman or Red Hood fans. The art worked well with it, never passing into stellar but always complimenting the story well. I wasn’t sure if I liked some of the choices made by the artist but overall the genuine quality was really good.
I am glad that this story arc worked out the way it did. I really enjoy the character of Jason Todd. I was hoping when the reboot was announced Winick was going to be the one on RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS but alas he is not, though I know Sarah/TinyBats is excited to see him working on CATWOMAN. I think he’ll do a great job. Definitely a great pick up for Batman and Red Hood fans alike.
