After reading the tie-ins for this week I was excited to see what FLASHPOINT #3 had in store. After leaving Barry in a less than pleasant state, I was wondering how many twists and turns issue #3 would have.
Issue #3 opens with a disheartened Cyborg talking to the President of the United States. After a quick jump back to the Batcave, we see how bad Barry is. He is still determined to try his experiment again because he can feel his memories changing to adhere to the new timeline. After another go with the experiment, Barry and Batman find Cyborg to learn more about this mysterious rocket that feel from the skies years earlier. Cyborg helps them break into a government building and find “Project: Superman”. They quickly find this isn’t going to go quite as well as they had planned.
The story telling was good in issue #3. To be honest, it wasn’t quite as enthralling as the last two but it was still really great. It was nice to see little snippets of all the tie-ins I’ve been reading well integrated throughout the issue. I feel issue #3 was more of an exposition to set up #4, which is looking to be interesting right now. I really like the art. It almost feels like a mix of Manapul and Reis, and I enjoyed that aspect of Andy Kubert’s work.
All in all this was a good issue. Was it the best of the 3 so far? No. Still, it had great moments. I strongly urge people to pick up the Flashpoint run; the first issue is in second printing right now so it wouldn’t be too tough.
